Print Grading.
What is meant by A and B grade prints?
Printmaking by nature is an unpredictable art. All prints in an edition will not emerge exactly the same. Often prints have slight imperfections, such as misalignment of layers, smudges, blurs, blotches etc. The severity of these imperfections is determined by the maker, often with a grading system.
A grade prints are largely considered by the artist to be the most ideal prints. These have less noticeable imperfections and so are considered the most perfect prints in an edition.
B grade prints may have more obvious marks or imperfections. The extent of these imperfections varies from print to print. B grades are still wonderful prints that deserve a life on display!
